Welcome to Mrs. McWhinney's
CLASSIFICATION OF LIVING THINGS WEBQUEST
Purpose
Everyday we classify. We sort and organize our school work into subject folders. We organize our clothes into drawers - socks, underwear, t-shirts, etc. We organize our dishes in the kitchen - cutlery, plates, bowls...
Scientists organize living things. They study the characteristics and relationships of living things and sort them into categories. During your quest you will learn about how scientists classify living things and you will be able to distinguish between life forms as a single or multi celled organism and belonging to one of the five Kingdoms of life.
Before we go any further and learn about your mission, I'd like you to think about and respond to these three questions:
1) How is a giraffe similar to an elephant?
2) How is a cat different than a pine tree?
3) Why do you think scientist need to organize (classify) living things into groups?
Click on the discussion page and post your ideas. Be sure to read the responses from your classmates.
